In Search of Indigenous Rights

In Search of Indigenous Rights is a story that came to me right around the time that I entered SD61. It follows the journey of a little girl’s imagination as she goes on an adventure in search of Indigenous Rights–it includes real moments in Canadian Indigenous History through the eyes of a little girl.

The story/images have been completed and the book is being edited.

In the story she learns from her grandfather.

She learns about The Royal Proclamation and creation of Indigenous Reserves.

And she embarks on an imaginary journey across Canada and through time.

On her journey west, she encounters different moments in colonial Indigenous relations including the banning of ceremony, treaty systems, White Paper and more. Will she stand strong and learn to drum?

How can urban Indigenous people connect with their heritage?
This book explores these issues and more.
